V John Lennon Solo Catalog Now on iTunes
www.apple.com—14itunes.html
* New on iTunes this week was the debut of the John Lennon solo catalog Sixteen of Lennon's solo works from EMI Music are available. For a limited period of 30 days, exclusive video content will be included with the albums “John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band,” “Sometime in New York City,” “Walls and Bridges,” “Milk and Honey” and the collections “Anthology” and “Working Class Hero.”
“John Lennon is one of the greatest artists of our time,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We’re thrilled to have his solo catalog available on the iTunes Store for the first time.”
As part of EMI Music’s digital catalog, the John Lennon solo works will be available in iTunes Plus, offering DRM-free music tracks with high quality 256 kbps AAC encoding for $1.29 per song.
V Universal Selling DRM-Free Music, but not on iTunes
www.nytimes.com—10music.html
* Universal, the world’s biggest music conglomerate, said it would offer albums and songs without DRM, through existing digital music retail services like RealNetworks and Wal-Mart, services from Amazon.com and Google, and some artists’ Web sites.
But the music will not be offered D.R.M.-free through Apple’s iTunes. The effort is likely to be seen as part of the industry’s wider push to increase competition to iTunes and shift leverage away from Apple, which wields enormous influence over prices and other terms in digital music. A month ago, Universal notified Apple that it would not agree to a new long-term contract to sell music through iTunes.
V Downside to .Mac Upgrade - Eats up disk space for some
www.tuaw.com—new-mac-idisk-sizes-gobble-up-drive-space-for-those-who-sync
* For those people who sync their iDisks to their Mac using the iDisk Sync features, now that the .Mac webspace has been increased to 10GB, this means that the space required on your computer will also increase to 10GB, regardless of whether you use all that space or not. This can be particularly problematic for people with smaller hard drives. In the mean time, you can turn off iDisk syncing, or go to your .Mac preferences and re-allocate the space between Email and iDisk.
V iMovie '08 lacks support for Plug-ins - Apple offers iMovie '06 for Free
www.tuaw.com—imovie-08-lacks-support-for-plug-ins
* Because iMovie '08 has been completely redesigned from the ground up, plug-ins will no longer work. This is a problem for people who have spent lots of money on special effect packs for iMovie. iMovie '08 also has the disadvantage of having limited transitions, no themes, and limited color correction. For those users updates by these changes, Apple has opted to allow buyers of iLife '08 to download the previous version if iMovie for free.

V The 300 Page iPhone Bill
* Following up on a story from last week, Mac blogger Justine posts a humorous video on her blog about her 300 page phone bill that arrived form AT&T. According to Justine, they give a detail transaction of every text message sent and received, and we also heard from David Pogue that they also itemize all your data usage.
V iTunes Web Widgets
www.apple.com—myitunes
* My iTunes widgets can be embedded on any Flash-enabled website, including most blogs and social-networking profiles.* (Note, they won't be viewable on the iPhone since the iPhone doesn't support Flash.) You can also use the My iTunes feed with any standard RSS or ATOM feed reader. Most feed readers require that you simply paste the feed URL in a special section to view your updated activity. There are three categories of widgets, my iTunes Purchase, iTunes REviews, and iTunes Favorites.
V Skype on an iPhone
www.macnn.com—skype.comes.to.iphone
* Shape Services has released IM+ for Skype, a mobile application that enables voice and text communication with other Skype users and provides cost-effective calling to landlines and mobiles. The product is now in Beta Testing on the iPhone according to the company website. The website does mention there is a one time fee for the program, but we couldn't find any further information on cost, possibly because it is in the beta testing stage. You can find it at: www.skypeforiphone.com
V AppleWorks End of Life'ed
www.macworld.co.uk—index.cfmI
* We know there are several people who still use and depend on AppleWorks, unfortunately it looks like Apple has finally stopped supporting the product. However, the good news is the new iWork is fully compatible with your old APpleWorks Documents so now may be the time to upgrade.

V Listener Feedback:
* Tyler:
* Hey guys i heard your podcast yesterday talking about iLife 08 and
the system requirements, the package actually came right after i
finished the episode. I was bummed when i found out that iMovie would
not run on a 12" powerbook G4, but i tried it anyways. I installed
iLife but it told me iMovie would not run on my computer so i went
ahead with the installation, everything else worked fine but iMovie
definitely does not run on a G4. Apple does however offer iMovie 06
as a free download to anyone who has purchased iLife 08 so that helps
some if you have iLife 05 or older. Everything else works great and
luckily my mom just got a new macbook which iMovie runs great on,
probably better with the faster processor and extra memory... While installing a box pops up saying iMovie will not be installed because it is not supported by the computer, but continues on with the rest. You do however have to go online to download iMovie 06. Other than that everything is great.
V Bill:
* i Katie & Corey -I purchased a document scanner from MacMall that I found out was not Mac compatible. I understand that many lawyers us this type of scanner and I wondered if either of you have ever tried something like it.

Ambir Travelpro 600 PS600-80 It plugs in via USB and look about the size of a 12 inch ruler.

Seeing that I am not having any success, maybe I ought to go the route of a printer/scanner? I really don’t need a scanner that is portable. And I don’t have a printer yet for my Macbook. Can you recommend a good printer/scanner? I guess they plug in via USB? Or can you send to it wirelessly?

Thanks for your help! I love the show. Congrats to Katie on taking the Bar Exam. I still remember the CPA Exam – glad it is over
V Tyler:
* right now my iTunes library says it is 16gb large, but obviously it
is not because of what it says on my ipod and Apple TV, and i see
under the advanced tab there is a convert to AAC, will that make the
files smaller in the music folder? and if not do you know any ways to
do this?
thanks
V David:
* I just saw your video on installing the 802.11n card.

Mine still doesn't work in 802.11n mode.

In the video, extra software for optimizing the system was mentioned.  I don't have that.

Could that be crucial?

I followed all of the instructions for using Pacifist.
